Community Guidelines

Effective Date: August 19, 2026 · Last Updated: August 19, 2026

These Community Guidelines govern participation in public forums, discussions, comments, posts, polls, profiles, shared cases, messages, and other community features of Overthink It (“Overthink It,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

Overthink It is designed to help adults think through relationships, dating situations, conversations, social situations, and everyday questions. Because users may discuss sensitive personal experiences and information about other people, maintaining a respectful, privacy-conscious, and reasonably safe environment is essential.

These Guidelines are incorporated into and form part of the Overthink It Terms of Service. A violation may result in content removal, feature restrictions, suspension, or termination of an account.

These Guidelines establish general standards that apply immediately. Feature-specific rules, safety requirements, or additional restrictions may supplement these Guidelines when particular community features are introduced.

These Guidelines do not guarantee that any particular content will be removed or that any particular enforcement action will be taken. We may take reasonable action when we believe it is necessary to protect users, the community, or the platform.

1. Be Respectful

Treat other people with basic respect.

You may disagree, criticize an idea, or express a strong opinion. You may not use disagreement as a reason to harass, threaten, humiliate, or attack another person.

Do not engage in:

  • Harassment
  • Bullying
  • Personal attacks
  • Repeated unwanted contact
  • Intimidation
  • Threats
  • Targeted humiliation
  • Abusive behavior
  • Coordinated harassment
  • Encouraging others to harass someone

Disagree with the opinion, not the person.

2. No Hate or Discrimination

Do not attack, threaten, demean, or encourage discrimination against people based on protected or personal characteristics, including:

  • Race
  • Ethnicity
  • Nationality
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity
  • Disability
  • Or other protected characteristics

This applies to posts, comments, usernames, profiles, polls, messages, images, and other community content.

3. No Threats or Encouragement of Violence

Do not:

  • Threaten another person
  • Encourage someone to hurt another person
  • Encourage real-world violence
  • Celebrate or glorify real-world violence
  • Encourage users to physically confront someone
  • Provide instructions for harming another person

Where appropriate and legally permitted or required, credible threats may be reported to appropriate authorities.

4. No Doxxing or Exposure of Private Information

Do not post, distribute, request, or encourage others to locate or expose someone's private information.

This includes:

  • Home addresses
  • Personal phone numbers
  • Personal email addresses
  • Private social-media accounts
  • Private messages
  • Private photographs
  • Authentication information
  • Financial information
  • Government identification information
  • Private workplace information
  • Real-time location information
  • Other information that could facilitate stalking or harassment

Do not encourage users to identify, locate, track, contact, or confront a private individual.

Information that someone has intentionally made publicly available does not automatically mean it is appropriate to repost or aggregate for the purpose of targeting that person.

5. Protect Private Conversations

Overthink It may allow users to analyze conversations and relationship situations, including through screenshots.

If you share screenshots or excerpts of:

  • Text messages
  • Dating-app conversations
  • Direct messages
  • Social-media conversations
  • Emails
  • Group chats
  • Other private communications

you should remove identifying information unless you have permission or another lawful basis to share it.

This may include:

  • Names
  • Usernames
  • Profile photographs
  • Phone numbers
  • Email addresses
  • Addresses
  • Locations
  • Employer information
  • Other identifying information

Overthink It may remove content that unnecessarily exposes another person's private information.

6. Dating Discussions Must Not Become Public Shaming Campaigns

Overthink It may be used to discuss dating experiences and dating-app interactions.

You may ask the community for perspective on a dating situation.

You may not use the platform to:

  • Shame a private individual
  • Humiliate someone
  • Expose someone's identity
  • Encourage people to contact someone
  • Mobilize people against someone
  • Encourage harassment
  • Ask users to locate someone
  • Create public blacklists of private individuals
  • Encourage mass-reporting of someone's accounts
  • Publish identifying dating profiles for ridicule

Focus on the situation and behavior rather than turning an identifiable person into a target.

7. No Targeted Harassment or Brigading

Do not organize users to attack, harass, mass-report, contact, embarrass, or otherwise target another person.

This includes encouraging users to:

  • Raid someone's social-media account
  • Flood someone's messages
  • Mass-report someone's account without legitimate reason
  • Contact someone's employer or family
  • Find someone's location
  • Post someone's personal information
  • Coordinate retaliation
  • Vote against someone as retaliation

Do not use Overthink It to organize online or offline harassment.

8. Do Not Impersonate Others

Do not falsely pretend to be:

  • Another Overthink It user
  • A public figure
  • A company
  • An organization
  • A government entity
  • Another person involved in a conversation

Do not create misleading accounts intended to deceive users about your identity.

Parody, satire, or fictional content may be permitted when it is sufficiently clear that it is not a genuine identity claim.

9. No Fraud, Scams, or Illegal Activity

Do not use Overthink It to facilitate or promote illegal activity, including:

  • Fraud
  • Scams
  • Identity theft
  • Trafficking
  • Extortion
  • Blackmail
  • Theft
  • Financial crimes
  • Credential theft
  • Illegal transactions
  • Criminal schemes

10. No Sexual Content Involving Minors

Overthink It is an 18+ platform.

Any sexual content involving minors is strictly prohibited.

Do not use Overthink It to generate, upload, request, distribute, analyze, sexualize, exploit, or facilitate sexual content involving minors.

We may take immediate action and may report unlawful material where required or appropriate.

11. No Spam

Do not flood the community with repetitive or unwanted content.

Prohibited spam includes:

  • Repeated identical posts
  • Repeated comments
  • Mass messaging
  • Automated posting
  • Artificial engagement
  • Engagement manipulation
  • Unwanted advertising
  • Referral spam
  • Bot activity intended to manipulate the community

Do not create multiple accounts to artificially increase visibility, reactions, comments, votes, or other engagement.

12. No Manipulation of Polls or Community Features

Unless a poll specifically states otherwise, one account should represent one genuine vote.

Do not manipulate polls through:

  • Duplicate accounts
  • Bots
  • Coordinated fake accounts
  • Purchased votes
  • Automated voting
  • Account sharing
  • Other deceptive methods

Do not create misleading polls primarily intended to harass, shame, target, or deceive another person.

13. No Misleading Fabrication

Do not intentionally fabricate information in order to deceive other users.

This includes intentionally falsifying:

  • Screenshots
  • Text conversations
  • Dating conversations
  • Quotes
  • Stories
  • Profiles
  • Images
  • Poll results
  • Claims about another person

If something is fictional, hypothetical, recreated, satirical, AI-generated, or materially edited, clearly identify it when failing to do so could reasonably mislead others.

14. AI-Generated Content

AI-generated content is permitted when it complies with these Guidelines.

You may not use AI to:

  • Impersonate another person
  • Fabricate evidence against someone
  • Create deceptive screenshots
  • Manufacture conversations and present them as authentic
  • Generate harassment
  • Create sexual content involving minors
  • Facilitate fraud
  • Manipulate community voting
  • Create misleading content intended to cause real-world harm

If AI-generated or substantially AI-manipulated content could reasonably be mistaken for authentic content, clearly label it.

15. Respect Intellectual Property

Only upload or distribute content you have the right or permission to share.

Do not knowingly upload:

  • Copyrighted material you have no right to distribute
  • Stolen content
  • Pirated material
  • Private content obtained through unauthorized access
  • Someone else's original work while claiming it as your own

Copyright complaints may be handled under Overthink It's separate Copyright / DMCA Policy.

16. No Spam Advertising

Do not use public community features primarily to advertise products, services, businesses, referral links, or commercial offers unless the applicable feature expressly permits that activity.

Do not:

  • Repeatedly promote the same business
  • Post unrelated referral links
  • Use fake accounts to promote products
  • Disguise advertisements as personal recommendations
  • Manipulate discussions to promote a product

Relevant, genuine discussions about products or services may be permitted when they are not deceptive or abusive.

17. Keep Posts Relevant

Use appropriate:

  • Categories
  • Tags
  • Titles
  • Discussion topics

Do not intentionally post unrelated material simply to obtain visibility.

Moderators may move, edit, lock, or remove substantially off-topic content.

18. No Engagement Bait

Do not intentionally manufacture fake controversy or misleading content solely to generate:

  • Comments
  • Likes
  • Votes
  • Shares
  • Attention
  • Arguments

Genuine questions, controversial opinions, and strong disagreements are allowed.

The concern is intentional deception or manipulation.

19. Shared Cases and Discussions

If Overthink It allows users to share Cases or participate in discussions involving relationship situations, users are responsible for considering whether they have permission or another lawful basis to share information about other people.

Do not use a shared Case or public discussion to:

  • Expose someone's identity
  • Publish private information
  • Organize harassment
  • Encourage retaliation
  • Manipulate another person
  • Publicly shame someone

A user's ability to access a shared Case does not necessarily mean they have permission to repost its contents publicly.

20. Public Posts Are Not Private

Content posted publicly may be:

  • Viewed by other users
  • Shared by other users
  • Quoted by other users
  • Reported
  • Moderated
  • Preserved in moderation, security, or legal systems where necessary

Do not publicly post information that you would not want other people to see.

Deleting content does not necessarily mean every copy, screenshot, quotation, cache, backup, or moderation record immediately disappears.

21. Protect Your Own Information

Exercise caution when sharing personal information.

Do not publicly post:

  • Passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Financial account information
  • Government identification numbers
  • Private addresses
  • Sensitive medical information
  • Private contact information
  • Other authentication secrets

Overthink It may remove exposed sensitive information where appropriate, but you remain responsible for information you choose to publish.

22. No Credential or Account Theft

Do not attempt to obtain, guess, steal, or misuse another person's:

  • Password
  • Authentication code
  • Session token
  • Account credentials
  • Private access link

Do not attempt to bypass authentication, authorization, privacy settings, or other security controls.

23. No Malicious Technical Activity

Do not use Overthink It to distribute or execute malicious software or conduct attacks against the platform or its users.

This includes:

  • Malware
  • Viruses
  • Credential-stealing tools
  • Phishing
  • Malicious scripts
  • Exploits intended to compromise accounts
  • Denial-of-service attacks
  • Unauthorized access attempts

Do not interfere with the operation or security of the platform.

24. Do Not Manipulate Moderation

Do not abuse reporting or moderation systems.

Do not:

  • File knowingly false reports to punish another user
  • Coordinate fraudulent reports
  • Mass-report someone as retaliation
  • Create fake evidence for moderators
  • Attempt to manipulate moderation decisions
  • Evade enforcement using alternate accounts

Report genuine concerns rather than using reports as a weapon.

25. Report Problems Instead of Escalating

If you encounter:

  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Scams
  • Doxxing
  • Prohibited content
  • Impersonation
  • Serious privacy violations
  • Other violations of these Guidelines

use the available reporting mechanism.

Do not retaliate, organize users against the person, or attempt to conduct your own investigation or punishment.

26. AI Responses and Reports

Overthink It may provide reporting mechanisms for user content and, where applicable, AI-generated responses.

AI-generated content and user-provided information may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or inappropriate.

You should independently evaluate important information rather than assuming that an AI response is correct.

AI output should not be treated as proof of another person's intentions, feelings, identity, character, or behavior.

Reports concerning AI output may be reviewed to investigate potential safety, policy, technical, or abuse issues.

27. Moderation and Enforcement

Overthink It may review content when reasonably necessary to:

  • Enforce these Guidelines
  • Investigate reports
  • Protect users
  • Prevent abuse
  • Address security threats
  • Comply with applicable law
  • Respond to valid legal requests

Depending on the circumstances, we may:

  • Remove content
  • Limit content distribution
  • Add warnings or labels
  • Disable comments
  • Lock discussions
  • Restrict community features
  • Temporarily suspend an account
  • Permanently terminate an account
  • Restrict particular features
  • Preserve information for legitimate safety, security, legal, or moderation purposes

We may take action against conduct that is not specifically listed word-for-word if it presents a substantial risk to users, the community, or the platform.

28. Human Review Is Limited and Purpose-Based

Overthink It does not represent that human personnel routinely read users' private AI conversations or private account content.

Where technically and operationally applicable, content or information may nevertheless be reviewed by authorized personnel when reasonably necessary for purposes such as:

  • Responding to a report
  • Investigating abuse
  • Addressing a safety concern
  • Troubleshooting a technical problem
  • Enforcing these Guidelines or the Terms of Service
  • Complying with legal obligations
  • Protecting the platform or its users

AI systems may also automatically process content to provide requested functionality and operate safety controls.

The Privacy Policy and AI Use & AI Privacy Notice provide additional information about data processing.

29. Repeat Violations

Repeated violations may result in progressively stronger enforcement.

Serious violations may result in immediate suspension or termination without prior warning.

Creating another account to evade a suspension or other enforcement action is prohibited.

30. Appeals

Where Overthink It provides an appeal process, users may request review of eligible moderation decisions.

An appeal should explain why the user believes the action was incorrect or disproportionate.

Overthink It may establish reasonable limits on repetitive, abusive, or bad-faith appeals.

Submitting an appeal does not automatically restore removed content or suspended access while the appeal is pending.

31. Legal Compliance

These Guidelines operate alongside applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Nothing in these Guidelines is intended to prohibit lawful speech or activity protected by applicable law.

However, the fact that conduct may be lawful does not necessarily mean Overthink It must permit that conduct on its platform.

Overthink It may establish reasonable content and conduct standards for use of its services.

32. No Guarantee of Safety

Overthink It cannot guarantee that users will always behave appropriately.

We do not guarantee that:

  • Every prohibited post will be detected
  • Every report will result in removal
  • Every harmful interaction will be prevented
  • Every user is who they claim to be
  • User-provided information is accurate
  • Content will remain available
  • Content will be removed immediately after being reported

Users interact with other users at their own discretion and should exercise reasonable judgment.

33. Community Standards Apply Across Features

These Guidelines apply throughout Overthink It, including, where applicable:

  • Public forums
  • Posts
  • Comments
  • Polls
  • Friend interactions
  • Shared Cases
  • Profiles
  • User-generated content
  • Messaging
  • Replies
  • Reactions
  • Uploaded images
  • Conversation screenshots
  • AI-assisted content
  • Other community features

Private content is not necessarily exempt from enforcement when review is reasonably necessary to address reports, safety concerns, abuse, security issues, or legal obligations.

34. Future Community Features

Overthink It may introduce additional social or community features over time.

These Guidelines establish baseline standards that apply when such features become available. Feature-specific rules, safety controls, reporting mechanisms, or additional restrictions may be introduced as particular features launch.

Overthink It may modify, restrict, suspend, or discontinue community features at any time, subject to applicable law and the Terms of Service.

35. Age Requirement

Overthink It is intended exclusively for adults 18 years of age or older.

You must be at least 18 years old to create or use an Overthink It account.

You may not create an account for someone under 18 or knowingly allow a person under 18 to use your account.

Overthink It may take reasonable steps to enforce its age requirement and may suspend or terminate accounts that violate it.

Additional child-safety requirements may be addressed in the applicable Age and Child Safety Policy.

36. Core Community Principle

Overthink It is intended to help people think through situations, not to turn personal problems into public attacks.

A useful rule is:

Talk about the situation. Protect people's privacy. Don't turn another person into a target.

Users should be able to ask difficult questions, disagree, share experiences, and seek honest opinions without fear of harassment or public targeting.

At the same time, exposing another person's private information, organizing harassment, fabricating evidence, or deliberately deceiving the community is not acceptable.

37. Enforcement Priorities

When reviewing potentially problematic conduct or content, Overthink It may consider:

  • Safety
  • Privacy
  • Threats or harassment
  • Targeted abuse
  • Deception or manipulation
  • Illegal activity
  • Spam and platform abuse
  • Protection of minors
  • General community quality

These Guidelines are intended to establish clear behavioral expectations while giving Overthink It reasonable discretion to respond to circumstances that cannot be anticipated in advance.

38. Updates to These Guidelines

We may update these Community Guidelines as Overthink It develops, new features are introduced, or legal and safety requirements change.

When appropriate, we may provide notice of material changes.

The current version will be made available through Overthink It.

39. Relationship to the Terms of Service

These Community Guidelines are incorporated into the Overthink It Terms of Service.

If a conflict exists between these Guidelines and the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service will control unless the applicable provision expressly states otherwise.

Violations of these Guidelines may also constitute violations of the Terms of Service.
