Safety & Reporting Policy

Effective Date: August 19, 2026 · Last Updated: August 19, 2026

Overthink It is designed for adults to discuss dating, relationships, friendships, communication, and difficult social situations. Because these conversations can involve sensitive personal information and real-world relationships, Overthink It provides reporting, blocking, moderation, and safety tools intended to help users address abuse and prohibited activity.

This Safety & Reporting Policy explains how users can report concerns, how Overthink It may respond, and what users should do when they believe there is an immediate danger.

This Policy supplements the Overthink It Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

1. Our Safety Principles

Overthink It aims to provide a community where users can:

  • Discuss personal situations
  • Ask for perspective
  • Share experiences
  • Communicate with friends
  • Analyze conversations
  • Participate in public discussions
  • Use AI-assisted features

without being subjected to harassment, threats, targeted abuse, doxxing, scams, or other prohibited conduct.

At the same time, no online platform can guarantee complete safety.

Users should exercise reasonable judgment when interacting with other people and deciding what personal information to share.

2. What Should Be Reported

Users should report content or behavior that violates the Overthink It Community Guidelines or creates a meaningful safety concern.

Examples include:

Harassment

  • Repeated unwanted contact
  • Bullying
  • Personal attacks
  • Targeted humiliation
  • Threatening behavior
  • Coordinated harassment

Threats

  • Threats of physical harm
  • Threats against another person
  • Encouragement of violence
  • Statements suggesting an intention to harm someone

Privacy Violations

  • Doxxing
  • Posting private addresses
  • Posting private phone numbers
  • Exposing private conversations
  • Sharing sensitive personal information without permission
  • Attempts to identify or locate a private individual

Dating-Related Abuse

  • Publicly shaming a private individual
  • Posting someone's dating profile to mobilize harassment
  • Encouraging users to contact someone's employer, family, or friends
  • "Find this person" campaigns
  • Publishing private dating conversations without appropriate authorization

Fraud and Scams

  • Financial scams
  • Romance scams
  • Phishing
  • Identity theft
  • Fraudulent schemes
  • Requests for passwords or authentication codes

Impersonation

  • Pretending to be another person
  • Fake accounts designed to deceive
  • Impersonating companies or organizations
  • Impersonating public figures for fraudulent purposes

Child Safety

Because Overthink It is an 18+ platform, report any suspected account belonging to someone under 18 or sexual content involving minors.

Malicious Activity

  • Malware
  • Credential theft
  • Hacking attempts
  • Account takeover attempts
  • Security exploitation
  • Malicious links

3. How to Report Content

Where a reporting function is available, users can report content directly from the relevant:

  • Post
  • Comment
  • Message
  • Profile
  • Poll
  • Image
  • Shared case
  • Other user-generated content

Use the Report option and select the reason that most closely matches the problem.

Provide additional information when useful.

For example:

"This user posted my private phone number."

is more useful than:

"This is bad."

Do not include unnecessary sensitive information in a report.

4. Reporting Categories

Overthink It may provide reporting categories such as:

  • Bullying or harassment
  • Violence or threats
  • Suicide or self-harm
  • Hate or discrimination
  • Sexual content
  • Criminal activity
  • Spam or off-topic content
  • Other

The exact categories may change as the platform develops.

5. Emergency Situations

Overthink It is not an emergency response service.

If you or another person appears to face an immediate threat of serious physical harm, contact the appropriate emergency services or a qualified emergency resource in your location rather than waiting for Overthink It to respond to a report.

Do not rely on a platform report to obtain emergency assistance.

6. Threats of Violence

Threats involving real-world violence should be reported immediately.

Examples include threats to:

  • Kill someone
  • Physically injure someone
  • Attack a person
  • Commit an act of violence
  • Encourage others to commit violence

Overthink It may take immediate action, including restricting accounts or content.

Where appropriate or legally required, information may be disclosed to law enforcement or other authorized entities.

7. Self-Harm and Mental Health Emergencies

Users may discuss difficult emotional experiences and mental health concerns.

However, Overthink It is not a medical provider, crisis service, or substitute for professional care.

If someone appears to face an immediate risk of serious harm, users should contact appropriate emergency or crisis resources in their location.

Do not use Overthink It to encourage, glorify, coordinate, or provide instructions for self-harm.

8. Child Safety

Overthink It is an 18+ service.

Users must not:

  • Create accounts for minors
  • Allow minors to use their accounts
  • Sexualize minors
  • Share sexual content involving minors
  • Request sexual content involving minors
  • Facilitate sexual exploitation of minors

Any suspected sexual exploitation of a child or minor should be reported immediately.

Overthink It may preserve relevant information and report suspected child sexual exploitation to appropriate authorities or legally authorized organizations when required or appropriate.

9. Doxxing and Privacy Safety

If someone posts your private information, report the content immediately.

Examples include:

  • Home address
  • Personal telephone number
  • Private email address
  • Government identification
  • Financial information
  • Private workplace information
  • Real-time location
  • Private messages
  • Private photographs

Do not retaliate by posting the other person's information.

If the information presents an immediate physical safety risk, take appropriate steps to protect yourself and contact relevant authorities where necessary.

10. Private Conversation Screenshots

Overthink It allows users to analyze screenshots of conversations through certain features.

Users should not assume that having access to a conversation means they automatically have permission to publish it publicly.

When posting conversation screenshots publicly, users should remove:

  • Names
  • Usernames
  • Profile pictures
  • Phone numbers
  • Email addresses
  • Locations
  • Workplace information
  • Other identifying information

unless they have appropriate permission to share it.

Reports involving exposed private conversations may be reviewed under both the Community Guidelines and this Safety & Reporting Policy.

11. Dating Safety

Dating-related discussions can involve people users know personally or have met online.

Users should exercise caution when sharing:

  • Full names
  • Home addresses
  • Work locations
  • Phone numbers
  • Personal social-media accounts
  • Exact locations
  • Private photographs
  • Private conversations

Do not use Overthink It to organize groups of people against someone you met through a dating app.

Do not encourage others to:

  • Contact a person's employer
  • Contact their family
  • Find their home
  • Follow them
  • Confront them
  • Mass-report their accounts
  • Harass them

12. Removing a Friend

Overthink It does not currently offer a dedicated block feature. The available user-level safety tool is removing the other user as a Friend.

Removing a Friend ends your mutual friendship and revokes that person's access to Cases you had shared with them, according to the application's access controls.

Removing a Friend does not prevent the other person from sending you a new Friend request, and it does not delete messages they may already have seen, copied, or screenshotted.

If someone violates the Community Guidelines, you should report the conduct even after removing the person as a Friend.

13. Friend Removal and Shared Cases

Overthink It may allow users to create friendships and share cases with friends.

Friend relationships are intended to be mutual.

If a friendship is removed, including when either person removes the other, access to shared cases or other friend-only information may be revoked according to the application's permissions.

Users should not attempt to regain access to another person's cases by:

  • Creating another account
  • Using another person's account
  • Manipulating URLs or identifiers
  • Circumventing access controls
  • Asking another user to provide restricted content

14. Reporting a Friend

You may report a friend.

Being friends with another user does not prevent you from reporting their conduct.

Overthink It may restrict or terminate accounts regardless of the user's friendship status.

15. False Reports

Do not intentionally submit false reports to:

  • Harass another user
  • Retaliate against someone
  • Silence an opposing viewpoint
  • Manipulate moderation
  • Remove legitimate content
  • Disrupt another user's account

Reports should be made in good faith.

A report that turns out to be incorrect is not necessarily a violation. The problem is intentionally submitting a false or misleading report.

16. Mass Reporting and Brigading

Do not organize people to submit reports against someone simply because you dislike them or disagree with their opinion.

Coordinated reporting intended to abuse the moderation system may itself result in enforcement.

Legitimate reports from multiple users concerning the same harmful content are not automatically considered abuse.

17. What Happens After a Report

When a report is submitted, Overthink It may evaluate:

  • The reported content
  • The surrounding context
  • Previous reports
  • Relevant account activity
  • Applicable Community Guidelines
  • Applicable Terms of Service
  • Safety considerations
  • Whether immediate action is necessary

Depending on the circumstances, Overthink It may:

  • Take no action
  • Remove content
  • Restrict content visibility
  • Add a warning
  • Disable interactions
  • Restrict an account
  • Suspend an account
  • Terminate an account
  • Remove access to specific features
  • Block an account from contacting another user
  • Preserve relevant information
  • Take additional safety measures

18. Moderation Is Not Always Immediate

Reports may not be reviewed immediately.

Response times may vary depending on:

  • Report volume
  • Severity
  • Complexity
  • Available information
  • Technical circumstances
  • Legal requirements
  • Safety considerations

A lack of immediate action does not necessarily mean that a report has been ignored.

19. Confidentiality of Reports

Overthink It will take reasonable measures to limit unnecessary disclosure of information contained in reports.

However, reporting information may be accessed by personnel, service providers, moderators, security personnel, or other authorized parties when reasonably necessary to:

  • Investigate the report
  • Protect users
  • Maintain platform security
  • Enforce platform rules
  • Comply with law
  • Respond to legal requests

We cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality of a report.

20. Reporter Information

Where reasonably possible, Overthink It may avoid unnecessarily revealing the identity of a person who submitted a report.

However, there may be circumstances where disclosure is required by:

  • Law
  • Court order
  • Legal process
  • Safety obligations
  • Platform security requirements

Do not assume that reporting automatically guarantees anonymity.

21. Evidence

When reporting serious conduct, users may provide relevant evidence such as:

  • Screenshots
  • URLs
  • Usernames
  • Dates and times
  • Descriptions of the conduct
  • Relevant messages

Do not alter evidence in a misleading way.

Do not fabricate screenshots or conversations.

If a screenshot has been edited to remove private information, clearly indicate that it has been redacted.

22. AI-Generated and AI-Analyzed Content

Overthink It provides AI-powered features that may analyze:

  • Conversation screenshots
  • Dating profiles
  • Social-media profiles
  • User-provided text
  • Other uploaded content

AI-generated analysis is not automatically evidence that an allegation is true.

Users should not treat AI output as proof that someone:

  • Is lying
  • Is dangerous
  • Has committed a crime
  • Has a particular mental condition
  • Has a particular motive
  • Has a particular identity
  • Has a particular personal characteristic

AI results may be inaccurate.

If a user believes AI-generated content is being used to harass, deceive, expose, or target another person, it may be reported.

23. AI Privacy and Safety

Users should not upload unnecessary sensitive information into AI features.

Before uploading conversation or profile screenshots, users should consider whether the image contains:

  • Passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Financial information
  • Government identification
  • Medical information
  • Private addresses
  • Private contact information
  • Other sensitive information

Where appropriate, users should redact such information before uploading.

Additional information about AI processing is provided in the Overthink It AI Use & AI Privacy Notice.

24. Scams and Fraud

Be cautious when another user:

  • Requests money
  • Requests cryptocurrency
  • Requests gift cards
  • Requests account credentials
  • Requests authentication codes
  • Sends suspicious links
  • Claims to represent Overthink It
  • Requests financial information
  • Creates an urgent financial emergency story
  • Promises unrealistic financial returns

Overthink It employees will not ask users for their passwords or authentication codes.

Report suspected scams rather than attempting to investigate or retaliate against the account yourself.

25. Impersonation Reports

Report accounts that appear to impersonate:

  • You
  • Another user
  • A public figure
  • A company
  • An organization
  • Overthink It

When possible, provide information explaining why the account appears deceptive.

Overthink It may request additional information when necessary to evaluate an impersonation claim.

26. Account Security

Users are responsible for protecting their accounts.

Do not share:

  • Passwords
  • Authentication codes
  • Recovery information
  • Session credentials
  • Private login links

If you believe your account has been compromised:

  • Change your password through the official account settings or authentication provider.
  • End active sessions where the platform provides that option.
  • Review recent account activity.
  • Report the suspected compromise to Overthink It.

27. Security Vulnerabilities

If you discover a potential security vulnerability in Overthink It, do not exploit it against users or use it to access private information.

Report the issue through the appropriate security contact provided by Overthink It.

Do not publicly disclose sensitive vulnerability details before giving the company a reasonable opportunity to investigate and address the issue.

28. Law Enforcement Requests

Overthink It may respond to valid legal requests and may disclose information when required or permitted by applicable law.

This may include requests involving:

  • Court orders
  • Subpoenas
  • Search warrants
  • Emergency requests
  • Other legally valid processes

Overthink It will handle such requests according to applicable law and its internal legal procedures.

29. Preservation of Information

When reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or enforcement, Overthink It may preserve relevant information for an appropriate period.

Preservation does not necessarily mean that information will remain publicly accessible.

Information may include:

  • Account information
  • Reports
  • Relevant content
  • Moderation records
  • Security logs
  • Other information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose

Data handling and retention are further described in the Overthink It Privacy Policy and Data Retention and Deletion Policy.

30. No Guarantee of Enforcement

Overthink It does not guarantee that every report will result in:

  • Content removal
  • Account suspension
  • Account termination
  • Disclosure of information
  • A particular moderation outcome

Moderation decisions may depend on the available evidence, context, applicable rules, and safety considerations.

31. User Responsibility

Users remain responsible for their own interactions.

Overthink It does not:

  • Verify every user's identity
  • Guarantee that profile information is accurate
  • Guarantee that another user is safe
  • Guarantee that another user is who they claim to be
  • Guarantee that AI analysis is accurate
  • Guarantee that a relationship outcome will be positive

Use reasonable caution when communicating with people online or meeting someone in person.

32. Meeting Someone Offline

If you decide to meet someone you encountered through Overthink It or another online service:

Consider meeting in a public location, telling someone you trust where you will be, arranging your own transportation, and avoiding sharing unnecessary private information.

Do not feel pressured to meet someone.

If you feel unsafe, leave the situation and seek appropriate assistance.

33. Protection of Private Individuals

Overthink It may take additional action when content targets an identifiable private individual.

Factors may include:

  • Whether the individual is identifiable
  • Whether private information was disclosed
  • Whether the content encourages others to contact them
  • Whether the post is intended to shame or humiliate them
  • Whether there is coordinated activity
  • Whether there is a credible safety concern

A discussion about someone's behavior does not automatically become prohibited simply because the person exists in the real world. The primary concern is preventing harassment, exposure, targeting, and abuse.

34. Appeals and Enforcement Review

Where available, users may appeal certain moderation decisions.

An appeal should provide relevant information explaining why the decision should be reconsidered.

Overthink It may maintain reasonable limitations on repeated, abusive, or fraudulent appeals.

35. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Safety & Reporting Policy as:

  • New features are introduced
  • Community risks change
  • Security practices evolve
  • Legal requirements change
  • Moderation systems develop

Material changes may be communicated through appropriate means.

The current version will be available through Overthink It.

36. Related Policies

This Safety & Reporting Policy should be read together with:

37. Core Safety Rule

When something goes wrong, the goal is to report it, protect yourself, and avoid escalating the situation.

Do not:

  • Retaliate
  • Doxx someone
  • Organize harassment
  • Publish private information
  • Attempt to expose someone's identity
  • Threaten the other person
  • Encourage others to confront them

Instead:

Block → Report → Preserve relevant evidence → Seek appropriate help when necessary.

For immediate physical danger, do not wait for Overthink It to respond. Contact appropriate emergency services or other qualified emergency assistance in your location.
